Wolfmother Led Zep tribute, and rocking Brixton

November 16, 2006 by

Andrew StockdaleOn Tuesday night this week, Wolfmother played their tribute to legendary rockers Led Zeppelin, recognising their recent entry into the UK Hall of Fame.

As part of the set, they played the Led Zep classic, Communication Breakdown.

I think it’s a fantastic illustration of Wolfmother’s growing status in the music world that they were asked to do this. Nice one guys.
Wolfmother also played Brixton, London last night as part of the MTV2 Spanking New Music Tour. With The Maccabees, Fields, Forward Russia! playing before them, it was a fantastic night (yes, I was there!).

The band played the usual favourites, with Woman going down particularly well with the enthusiastic crowd.

The set ended with Myles starting to destory his drum kit, which prompted Andrew to get in on the action, battering the bass drum with one of this many guitars. Looked like he had a lot of fun!

I was then lucky enough to attend the after show party, and got to chat with Andrew briefly before he left. You can read my full account of the night in the Wolfmother Forums.

Fuck Wolfmother! They compare nothing to the Power and Might of Led Zeppelin, and never will. I think they would be better off making thier own sound, rather than trying to imitate something so far beyond the reach any man. Then they would be more like Led Zeppelin in the sense of being origanal and outerworldly.

[…] of the other benefits though sound awesome, such as pre-sale tickets and ‘hanging out with the band. I’ll certainly be joining when the opportunity […]

I love Led Zeppelin. Raw and powerful then soft and delicate then bizarre and mildly disturbing.

Wolfmother are very young and raw as hell, which makes for some great sounds. They please my ears. If you don’t like them that’s OK.

Copying the style of other artists is how genre are born. The only people offended by this are usually the cutting edge of the fanatical fan base. Unfortunately most of those own guns but with the medication they’re on they can’t drive so WM should be pretty safe.
