And the winner is … not Wolfmother!

February 15, 2007 by

Following their amazing Grammy success, Wolfmother unfortunately did not follow suit with a Brit Award.  The honour of “International Breakthrough Act” went to Orson.

Dissapointing as it is, one out of two isn’t bad – and with no offense to the importance of the Brit Awards, I think the band and most fans would have picked that one of the two.

Let’s hope that with a new album, the band are up for more awards next year.

Hey guys! Check out this Wolfmother gossip from the May issue of Guitar World:

The afro’d Australian rock trio Wolfmother has taken the US music charts by storm as of late, with a sound that has drawn to comparisons to classic rockers like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. But according to an interview in the May 2007 issue of Guitar World magazine, just don’t call Wolfmother’s music “retro-style heavy rock:”

“I just call it rock and roll, and rock and roll is part of our culture in Western civilizationwe don’t have anything else,” lead guitarist Andrew Stockdale tells Guitar World. “It’s not like we’re Greeks and we play the pan flute and dance around in [expletive] leotards and do a do-se-do. This is Western civilization: we go to rock shows, we get drunk, we go to mosh pits, we try and get laid, we take drugs…or at least some people do.”

The band from Down Under recorded their album at the fabled Sound City studios in LA, the same studio used by Nirvana to record Nevermind, and Fleetwood Mac to record Rumours. So which album would Wolfmother prefer? “Nevermind, without a doubt, because it knocked Michael Jackson from the No. 1 spot!” Stockdale explains to Guitar World. “If that doesn’t inspire bands to kick ass, then nothing will.”

Long live Rock’ n Roll !!!
