Chatbox Removed from Site

January 14, 2016 by

Hey all, just a quick note to say that you might notice that I have removed the chatbox from the right-hand side of the site. This is basically because (1) it has been filled with spam and arguing for a while now and (2) I would like to encourage everyone to use the new forums (which, by the way, are now linked above in the banner). Thanks in advance for understanding and supporting.

Speaking of the site, we should hopefully be having some cosmetic changes here soon, including on the forums. New banners, a few tweaks to make it a bit shinier here and there; nothing too drastic, but some much-needed updates for sure. If you have any suggestions, please comment below!

Peace.

Yes! The chatbox was becoming horrible!

  3. TIFan on January 16th, 2016 2:11 am

lolololol delete away. not going away touchy touchy sensitive welfmefffer fans. dissenting opinions are not trolling, and contribute to broader understanding of the topic being discussed. if you can’t handle someone holding differing views, then it’s actually YOU that has the problem. a well rounded human being is able to discuss a topic with different opinions without throwing a temper tantrum, something you guys are guilty of. that’s so not raven guys!

so basically i put glasses on and say famos quote ‘deal wit it’.

    Well Done WM.net!

i haven’t read the chat in a while but it was a horrible platform and was only supposed to be a temporary fix (which became rather long term). I’m glad it is gone.

Mr Fan, I didn’t realise you were still here on a Wolfmother fan site?

  6. TIFan on January 16th, 2016 2:54 pm

Mr Jimmy, I didn’t realise welfmefffer were still relevant? It’s still 2005, yeah? Are blonde tips in spiky hair still cool?

lel enjoy circle jerking with three other dudes on your cute little “forum” huehuehuehue #thebiscuitisnowlimp

  8. TIFan on January 17th, 2016 12:24 am

wellll…hate to break it to you, but filtering and censoring your own opinions screams desperate for approval and that’s what you guys are guilty of. quite the inverse in my case. the fact that I have never been discouraged by your bollshieeet on the chat box supports this.

speaking of which, y’all are boring mofos. no differing opinions allowed. only brainless parroting of the same regurgitated drivel ad infinitum. oh the irony of you guys decrying mainstream music, when wolfmother has one of the most safe, straight-laced mainstream rock sounds out there. your idea of non-mainstream music is pretty much as mainstream as it gets. i kinda like them, but theyre not exactly groundbreaking or unique. surely we can all agree on that? do you guys even listen to different music, or just your narrow criteria of derivative formulaic riffrock? like an infinitesimally small amount of music the world has to offer? ever heard any south african afrobeat? ethiopian jazz? japanese folk? indian classical music? ever heard a polyrhythm? i cant think of anything more boring than shutting yourself off from that. be adventurous. live a little. open your mind and expand your horizons. there’s hope for you guys yet if you don’t just go “yucky, why doesn’t this fit my pre-conceived western ideas of what rawk should sound like”. be a bit more “pretentious” if thats the kind of label you like to throw around. the pretentious people are listening to far more interesting music than you guys. #truthbomb #boringmofos #nofilter #ramblingpostsarefun :)

  11. TIred on January 18th, 2016 5:41 am

TIFan, dissenting opinions are not trolling, but obnoxious behaviour with intent to aggravate is, and that’s exactly what you’ve been doing, cluttering up the chatbox preventing people from having a discussion about anything that isn’t what you want. Whenever someone posts anything about Wolfmother, you reply in a condescending and mocking manner both to the poster and the band. That’s just straight up rude.

You’re basically getting upset at people who wish to discuss Wolfmother related topics on a Wolfmother forum. Especially with a new album on the way. I find it sad that you don’t seem to understand nor respect that. It’s unfortunate that the forums had been down all this time (until a new one had been established), and that all topics have had to be squeezed into one chatbox, but again, this is a Wolfmother page, and with a new album around the corner; I think the onus is on you to understand that people here would be more interested in talking about that. And as you’ve seen, people have had differing opinions on it, it just comes across to me that you only take issue with people who speak of it in a positive way. In that regard it seems a little hypocritical to preach open-mindedness.

I personally enjoy both Wolfmother and Tame Impala, and I’ve also appreciated reading posts you’ve made about your thoughts on other music; I remember in particular one of your posts linking to a song by Flying Saucer Attack; a band I hadn’t heard of and now am enjoying browsing through their discography. I very much welcome that intellectual and positive discussion, but all this “welfmeffer” talk I can do without. I think you’re better than that.

No offense intended, have a nice day..

  12. Anonymous on January 18th, 2016 1:39 pm

The thing you have understand is that the original forum was one of the funnest places on the internet. There was a whole bunch of cool Tame Impala fans with open minds. We’d discuss the songs, help each other tab the songs out for guitar, share new music. It was like a tight-knit community in there. The utter excitement with everything was palpable. A more passionate bunch of music fans I’ve never met. So much more than just a message board.

Then the forum went down, and the guys stuck around for a very small amount of time, but had it beaten over their heads constantly to go away by the Wolfmother fans on here. Like knuckle-dragging troglodytes pawing away at the remnants of a beautiful carcass. The carcass of a beautiful impala, I suppose. It was seriously fucking tedious after a while. You guys completely fucked up a beautiful thing that we had going, and all you had to do was scroll past the Tame Impala discussion and have your own discussions going simultaneously. It’s such a ridiculously easy thing to do, but childish entitlement took over and fucked it all up.

I tried to make peace, I tried to ignore it, I tried to offer solutions, and I tried to get along with you guys, but it really gets old hearing “lol tame suck get out of our chatbox” for the gazillionth time. It might be childish, but basically, you guys fucked up my fun, so I fucked up yours. I can see where you’re coming from, but that was all totally self-inflicted. Just the last 4-5 months it got excessively bad and I just decided to say fuck it and fire back. You have to forge your own path in life nahmsayingbro? It seemed to do something, because it divided you guys and push your buttons and boundaries endlessly. I had fun again, so I’m not offering any apologies to anyone, except you, because it looks like you were caught in the crossfire. The guys that were dicks got everything they deserved, so I hope your butts aren’t still hurting mudderfarkers. Annals and khram all hurty.

Funnily enough, you guys bullshit had a knockover effect into my real life, and I’ve cared a hell of a lot less about needlessly pleasing others and sucking up at the expense of myself lately. So silver linings and all that.

Flying Saucer Attack are epic, so I wish you had’ve mentioned something to me and we could have discussed it properly! They came on shuffle on my Ipod today (so it’s kinda freaky that you brought it up) and my whole brain melted from the bliss of it all. I love their self-titled album the best, but Crystal Shade came on and blew my balls off. Checkitoutbro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg_t26P8gx8
Something about that crystalline, glassy guitar tone and the whole fuzzy atmosphere. Paints incredible pictures in my brain.

You’re cool. I liek. Verry verry much. You join sexi parti tiem orgi with me and ross yes??

  14. Jimmy on January 18th, 2016 7:26 pm

I was only joking TIF. No need to get personal. A message to everyone.. Stop being childish and insulting each other.. TI are known as the second love of this website, hence the dedicated forum section which was started on the original website.. Whether you like them, wolfmother or any other band, I’m happy to have everyone here.. I would personally love you (TIF) to try and build up the numbers in the tame impala section on the forum but if you don’t want to.. then fair enough.

On a side note.. I am starting to finally listen to Currents.. I’ve been meaning to for a while.. But heard Let It Happen on the radio and I fell in love with it!

  15. Jimmy on January 18th, 2016 7:34 pm

Also TIF is right that on the chatbox, it was turning so negative which is why I’m glad its gone. There is no need in telling someone to eff off and
I admittedly lost interest in coming to this site.. Me n Andre have tried hard in speaking with the admin of the site and trying to restore the once great forums but we honestly haven’t been successful, hence the new one. I understand a lot of people have now forgotten about wm.net but we are trying to rebuild.

Again.. stop telling people to leave the website. We want to draw people in, not turn them away.

  16. TIFan on January 19th, 2016 1:15 am

@TIshit: Hey maaaaan, your insecurities are showing. Read up on projection. Your constant need to act superior by manufacturing what you perceive to be deficiencies within me is extremely revealing in regards to your own psychology. You’re actually pointing a finger right back at yourself and exposing your own flaws. Maybe you weren’t hugged enough as a child? Maybe you were bullied at school? Your need for approval is showing. The advice to forge your own path in life is enormously relevant to you. I hope you can overcome it. There’s hope for you yet, young padawan.

  17. TIFan on January 19th, 2016 1:21 am

@Jimmy: There’s three conditions that would need to be met for me to go back, and I know they’ll never be met, so I don’t really know what to do.

    1) Restore the old posts. This is an extremely important thing for me. The amount of stuff that was posted on there was insane. It was like an archive of pretty much every single interview, every single snippet of information about the band. The amount of time I put into it was too much to just accept that it’s gone forever. Maybe I’ve built it up in my mind, but I just remember having heaps of fun on there.

    2) The old guys would need to be alerted that it’s back. This is difficult too, but slightly more easy than step 1, but it’s conditional on step 1 being met. Sadly, there’s a Reddit page now and everyone seems to go on there. But Reddit is awful for discussing stuff properly, and the people on there are pretty tedious to read. Not a fan.

    3) And this one baffles me. Why is the forum set to private? I didn’t have the slightest clue that there was a Tame Impala subforum again until I registered and saw it on there. How the hell do you expect people to join a forum if it’s invisible? Even the Wolfmother section is private and hidden too. People find this stuff through Google, and it’s completely un-Googleable.

Another thing, why the heeelll has my IP been banned from posting comments on here? It’s pretty childish, considering I’m trying to solve this shit with you guys, yet someone is trying to censor me from posting my point of view. I’ve been forced to resort to using a proxy to post these comments. Ban all the IP addresses you like, there’s plenty of ways to get around it. Stop being silly and let me post normally pls. You’re just making it worse for yourselves, and essentially pushing me to behaving in a manner that you’d probably label as “trolling”.

Cool to see you digging Tame Impala though! But Currents was a massive disappointment for me. That’s not to say it’s a bad album, but I had such a deep and enormous connection with the first two, that Currents felt very lackluster in comparison. Innerspeaker literally changed my life. It inspired me to pick up a guitar, and now I’m a musician. The incredible emotional and hypnotic nature of it kind of changed my perspective on so many things. I’ve felt happier in the last 6 years than I ever have in my life, and it was all triggered by music. Sounds arranged in a certain manner. Pretty amazing, right? It’s literally like the soundtrack to my life. Currents has even been described by Kevin Parker as “disposable pop”, which is one of his guilty pleasures, so I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised. I have to say though, The Moment, Nangs, Reality in Motion and Let It Happen are up there with the best songs of the year, for sure.

Its just so frustrating not being able to discuss Currents on here. The sheer euphoric excitement when everyone was discovering Lonerism for the first time was incredible. We were all in like a blissed out daze, completely floored by this masterpiece of an album, and sharing that excitement with like-minded people only deepened that connection further and further.

  18. Lol on January 19th, 2016 1:33 pm

    Three conditions???
Man, if you wanna join the forum as a civil person then do it, end of the story. If you want a Tame Impala Forum, then just create one by yourself, what you are asking to do on a little WM fan site it’s just impossible.

  19. TIFan on January 19th, 2016 2:00 pm

Aw hell no! Tell you did not just use the word ‘impossible’, you filthy unwashed pleb?!

  20. TIred on January 19th, 2016 2:51 pm

Oh..I didn’t realize there were things of that nature going on between you and other people on here that have resulted in what’s happened on the chatbox. I can’t speak on their behalf but I hope whatever animosity is there can be resolved…

That Crystal Shade song is amazing. I did a sunset night drive to it. Love the fuzzy atmosphere! While we’re sharing, I’ve been into a space rock / shoegaze band from the 90’s called Duster, quite into their guitar tones (and tones all round), maybe reminds me a bit of Modest Mouse?

  21. Jimmy on January 19th, 2016 6:10 pm

Well as you can probably guess.. neither me or Andre have access to the original files from the forum so we actually have no way of restoring these files.. which actually then connects to the 2nd request as we wouldn’t have any contact details for anyone.

As for the 3rd.. I’ll speak with Andre to see whats going on there.

Let It Happen is seriously getting some radio play here in the UK, which is surprising because of the length but I’m guessing it been cut down. I’m still going to be open minded about Currents as well but its a shame you found it less enjoyable. I’ll let you know my thoughts on it.

  22. TIFan on January 20th, 2016 12:46 am

@TIred: haha yeah, there’s like a full backstory to it. I think there were a lot of new guys that weren’t around for the original forum, and they were all like “why are you talking about Tame Impala? shut up!”, and then I’d explain it, then it would be ignored, then I’d continue and then get antagonistic responses back. Really tiring after a while. I mean, all I want to do is share the love of music around, ya cheeky otters!

Wolfmother’s cool and all, but there’s an entire world of music out there to be discovered. Maybe most of my suggestions don’t hit the mark with certain people, but I’m sure there’s at least one nugget of gold that connects with people every now and again if you go in open-minded, like Flying Saucer Attack with you. I’m actually kind of surprised that someone else on here dug FSA, just because they’re so abrasive and unflinchingly experimental. I think I posted that because people were like “New Crown is so lo-fi” and I was like “bitch please, listen to this…” hahaha. Also, I’ve noticed some of the guys on the chatbox get a bit sensitive when you disagree with them. Like, if they suggest a band and I’m not digging it, then some of them take it like I’m personally insulting them or something – like I’m not entitled to an opinion, because I’m a fan of Tame Impala. I don’t like to filter my opinions, and I often can pinpoint exactly what I like or dislike about a band in minute detail. Just stop being so touchy dudes. Opinions aren’t a personal affront on you as a human being. Just chilllllll.

YES! Sunset drives are the best, especially with shoegaze music! I’m assuming you’re a shoegaze fan, so did you dig the latest My Bloody Valentine album? 22 years in the making, and while it’s not as much of a perfect masterpiece as Loveless, the track ‘Who Sees You’ instantly became my favourite MBV song ever. Digging this Duster track though! Never heard of them before. Nice and lo-fi. Head nodding groove. I love the slight whammy bar dipping on the chords. Kind of gives them a warped shoegaze feel. Dat outro! Speaking of space rock, a super obscure band that I love is a band called SubArachnoid Space. Check em out. Long hypnotic jams that make you feel like you’re hurtling through space. @Jimmy: Well, at least you’re trying, so thank you for that! I’ll keep holding out hope, even though it seems pretty bleak at the moment.

There’s a 4 minute radio edit, so that might be the one getting the airplay, but Triple J over here in Australia often play the full 8 minutes. It’s like a rollercoaster of different sounds. Pretty amazing how intricate and layered it is. The Less I Know the Better gets played quite often too. But I’m kind of over that song now. Groovy as hell though – dat bass! It’s like the Feels Like We Only Go Backwards of the album. The song with the most mainstream appeal, which eventually gets overplayed.

Yes, report back with your thoughts! It’ll be interesting to compare our different opinions. To be honest, I haven’t listened to it front to back in a couple of months, so I’m probably due for another proper listen soon. I usually just go for The Moment and am satisfied with that. :)

I really did like Currents, I felt the first half was stronger than the 2nd half. For me, let it happen, the moment, eventually and the less I know the better were the strongest songs and they have gone straight in my basket. Really good album over all though and I can see why it’s been getting the praise it’s been getting.

Also their best selling album in the UK to date!
