Wolfmother do Queen & Bowie

July 23, 2010

It was Andrew’s birthday a few days ago, and as a present to us fans he and the band recorded a couple of epic songs and uploaded them to YouTube.

First is Queen (check out the guitar display):

And then there’s Bowie (that wallpaper hurts my eyes):

Not only are they cool covers (I particularly liked Starman with the bongos!), but it’s very cool to see the band hanging out and doing fun stuff. It feels like the chemistry is back for the first time in a good few years. Let’s hope to see more of this kind of thing!

Dave Atkins leaves Wolfmother

April 23, 2010

It seems things are changing yet again in the Wolfmother camp… after under two years of service, drummer David “Acosta” Atkins has decided to leave the band. In an email sent to mailing list subscribers, it was revealed that “Dave Atkins has decided to leave the band to spend much-needed time at home with his family”, possibly choosing to favour his other music endeavours (Resin Dogs, drum tuition) over The Wolfies. The email went on to say that “Dave has had a great experience touring and recording with the band … and may well still be around for future recordings”, although let the history books read that Atkins left the band in April 2010. We here at would like to say thanks for everything, Dave!

But Wolfmother will not be without a member, as they have wasted no time in hiring an American drummer called…

Will Rockwell-Scott!

Rockwell-Scott has performed with an American garage rock band called The Mooney Suzuki since its foundation in 1996, and has now joined Wolfmother on a temporary trial basis until the end of the Cosmic Egg touring cycle, until at least the end of this summer, although it is likely (dare I say) that he will then stay on full-time. The Mooney Suzuki are a great, fast-paced, all-out rock band, who you may recognise as the creators of “Shake That Bush Again”, which was featured on the video game Burnout 3, and/or “Alive & Amplified”, which was featured in a number of video games and performed well in the charts. The story of Rockwell-Scott’s enlistment is as follows: “After Andrew’s performances in L.A with Slash, the band decided to audition a few drummers whilst they were in town. And we’ve come across a young gun by the name of Will Rockwell-Scott of ‘Mooney Suzuki’ and ‘Har Mar Superstar’ fame. We’re very happy to have him on board and Will is keen as mustard to enter into the realm of Wolfmother.”

So turn those frowns upside down — we’ve got a new Wolfie on board, and it seems Dave could be hanging about making some rare appearances… WOLFMOTHER! Discuss it on the forums :)

New, and acoustic performances

October 23, 2009

Check it out, the official Wolfmother site has a new look – and I have to say, it’s a damn site easier to navigate around than the last one! It’s got a much clearer listing of tour dates (though not as good as ours, in my opinion!) with a nice feature of being able to add a comment on each. The News section is also much clearer and more ‘blog’ style. Photos and Videos sections are still being worked on.

Also highlighted on the site this evening are a number of acoustic performances and signings – if you are in the area, check them out! Details after the jump. [Read more]

Mini transmission

Transmission #5 is a short one, but amusing!

Wolfmother – up close and personal

October 4, 2009

Absolut vodka are releasing a special edition bottle – the Rock Edition. It’s the Absolut vodka we all know and love (okay, so those of us of legal drinking age of course), but wrapped in leather and studs. Check it out:

Okay, so that’s pretty cool I hear you say … but what’s the Wolfmother angle? Well, Absolut not only gave their vodka a rocking jacket, they tasked legendary photographer Danny Clinch to follow Wolfmother around for several days – resulting in an amazing film which you can view on the Absolut site. Well, if you are over 21/18 of course =0)

Click the image below to enter, enter your birthdate … truthfully of course … crack open a beer (or vodka) and enjoy.

I think this is excellent creative thinking by someone in the Wolfmother team, whether it’s 5b, Universal, DGC or maybe even the band themselves – keep it up and bring that van to the UK!

Oh, and the site also mentions the “Cosmic Egg Listening Party” and “Cosmic Voodoo” – both listed as coming soon. So check back often!
