Just a quick story to which to bring your attention — Andrew Stockdale has uploaded a couple of videos (with many more to come) of a jam session involving himself and Mark Maher, better known as Kram, the drummer of alternative rock band Spiderbait, who will be joining Stockdale’s band on the bill for the Aerosmith show at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium on April 28th.
Check out Andrew’s YouTube channel for the videos, more of which will be added soon!

Legendary guitarist Slash is currently completing the Australian leg of his Apocalyptic Love World Tour with vocalist Myles Kennedy and backing band The Conspirators, which kicked off with a show at the Brisbane River Stage last night (August 23rd). Wolfmother frontman Andrew Stockdale appeared at the show, performing lead vocals on the song ‘By the Sword’, on which he was featured for Slash’s self-titled debut album in 2010.
Tweeting shortly after the show, now-constant frontman Myles Kennedy declared that “Andrew Stockdale killed it tonight in Brisbane. Super talented cat. It’s always a pleasure to hear him sing with the band.”
Stockdale has previously performed the song live with Slash and co. a number of times, in April 2010 in Melbourne and in Brisbane in March last year, as well as on a number of TV appearances. The singer is currently in Australia with Wolfmother, recording the band’s third studio album.

Details of the collaboration between Wolfmother and popular American blues musician Seasick Steve have begun to emerge. Following performances together at the ASP World Surfing Awards (watch from about 3:01:00) and yesterday’s (April 8th) Bluesfest in Byron Bay, it has now become clear that the two parties have written and recorded an original song together, although it is not yet clear if it is due to receive a release in the near future.
Reviewing the penultimate day of the Australian blues festival, goldcoast.com.au revealed that Wolfmother and Steve have been working on a track called ‘Shout’ in Byron Bay, frontman Andrew Stockdale’s hometown. Writing early this morning (April 9th), website contributor Suzanne Simonot said the following about Seasick Steve’s set:
Led Zep treasure John Paul Jones even pulled out some lap steel for Seasick Steve, who called “incredible Australian man” Andrew Stockdale and his Wolfmother bandmates to the stage to perform Shout, an anti-bank original they’ve been hanging out writing together in Byron.
Similarly, the Ballina Shire Advocate mentioned that Seasick Steve “took the opportunity to invite Aussie rockers Wolfmother on stage to sing a song he wrote with the band in Byron Bay about the global financial crisis”. Some quick digging reminded us that a studio version of the song does in fact exist, having been recorded the day before the ASP show (February 22nd). Talking about the collaboration on Twitter, Stockdale explained that “Steve dropped into our Studio in Byron, recorded it, next day we’re playing it at ASP”.
Stockdale and co. first met Steve back in October 2009, after both artists performed on the English TV show Later… with Jools Holland. It was later reported by The Sun that they went out in London on a drinking session, after which Steve noted that “I feel rotten. I barely slept last night. It got ugly”.
What do you think of Wolfmother and Seasick Steve collaborating? What do you think of the track (we assume it’s the first song they play in the ASP World Surfing Awards video)? Let us know in the comments below!

On 22 November 2009, Andrew Stockdale performed with ex-Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash at a benefit concert at the Avalon, Hollywood, California. Andy performed one song, “By the Sword”, with a band dubbed “Slash & Friends” (named after the guitarist’s upcoming debut solo album, on which the song is slated to appear) comprising Andrew on vocals, Slash and Dave Navarro on guitar, Chris Chaney on bass and Travis Barker on drums.

Update: Incidentally, Slash has reported on his Twitter page that he is to be “Jamming with Andrew Stockdale tonight at the Wiltern Theater.” Perhaps this could lead to future collaborations? Ensue fan excitement…

Andrew is taking part in an amazing charity event in a few weeks, singing in the same lineup as Slash, Ozzy Osbourne, Perry Farrell, Travis Barker, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, Billy Idol and Dave Navarro.
Tickets are pricey, starting at $85 … but to be honest, don’t go out tonight and buy tickets for this instead. I wish I had the cash and time to fly over and see this epic event.
Check the LAYN website for details (click the image above).
Update: Okay, so I just saw Andrew’s Twitter update and he mentions a new “Rock Spectacular” called By The Sword. New song?! Even more reason to get tickets.

In an interview with Triple J on April 29th, Andrew spoke about what was going on in the LA studios.
He spoke about having a guest in the studios with him, this guest happened to be the lead guitarist of Velvet revolver and former guitarist of Guns ‘N Roses.
They said they just played together with acoustic guitars, and just mucked around, and hinted at the possibility of doing a song together.
And now just recently, he’s taken photographic proof of this clash of mighty guitarists!
No news of which Wolfies song Slash has played on, nor about the Slash song Andy played on.
But keep an eye on this space and forums for more news as they come!
