Cosmic Egg Review – auspicepresider
The Birth of All Creation: Wolfmother’s Cosmic Egg, by auspicepresider
‘On a Sun Baked, Wind Swept Desert, a Colossal, oval shaped form can be seen, lying on it’s side, as a lone robed Pilgrim stands close by, braving the strange Object’s mysterious immensity, watching, in silent appraisal.
Far Away, in a Field of Flowers, the looming form of the Cosmic Egg floats before a little girl, her hair in two braids.
In stunned awe, now in a scrub-laden expanse, the figures of a boy and a girl witness the Opening of the same, familiar, oval form. the Conception Seed: the Timeless Beginning and End, the Origin of Origin.
Wolfmother, as a band, have, with ‘Cosmic Egg’, re-discovered discovery.
They have tapped into spontaneity, and potentiality, now and forever after.
They have taken up this foundation, arguably ‘The Foundation’:
‘Live Who You Are: Nature. Interpret it, in Your world,
or the World Through you: however way you see it.’
Put somewhat Metaphysically, In a way, with their long-awaited second Album ‘Cosmic Egg’, Wolfmother simply presents, in Musical Form, a Sonic Synthesis of Nature’s Infinite Shapes. They are constantly finding and applying other methods to achieve this, but these Shapes are brought about purely by the interaction between their psyche and their instruments, then distilled and put to Record, through a newly purpose-created context I’ve come to describe quite vaguely as, ‘The All-Feel’:
Essentially, to Gain the Broadest Sense of Perspective of all Matters and Things, Equalizing, Leveling them out and making them all One. What’s made from that are this Record’s Extraordinarily Balanced & Textured Songs, that effectively make up their personal culture: the Eldritch Landscapes of Unicorns, The Rumbling of Coming Storms, the Pyramid ridden Deserts, the cave paintings and carvings Inside The Mountain of Wolfmother’s very identity, or ‘civilization’, so to speak: Their Quintessential Life.
It has all returned, in ‘Cosmic Egg’, the second expedition into Wolfmother’s Universe.
All this, appropriately, is possible to them Only through that dream-like versatility that is Music, a means whose true usage is borne forth only from accepting, harnessing and piloting the mind-senses of the Astral Self, aka. the Imagination Self: that version of ourselves (one that, as far as concerns Wolfmother’s songwriter/frontman, Andrew Stockdale, chooses to be in and use quite alot!) that is allowed to fly, un-reigned to any one reality, though still storming on the wings of a sure direction that, veiled in honest mystery, (the origin of all things is ultimately unknown, Isn’t it?) guides our intuition always, subconsciously, lets us truly KNOW, to be in tune.
To be consistent with the Universe-Echoes that shape our No-Time space, from The Moment That All Matter Suddenly Was. (arguably, the Big Bang, or ‘Cosmic Egg’).
Through this intrinsic facet of themselves as a Band, that they have chosen to use (or has it chosen to use them?) through their Music and what is created therefrom, with ‘Cosmic Egg’, Andrew now appears, by way of the lyrical and musical Universality and Skill as displayed on the past and on the new Record, to hope to satisfy his obvious, ambitious compulsion to explore every millisecond of possibility in his own Sonic Universe-creating, Psychedelic Experience-making way, and to acquaint others with their own Infinite Presence, Realize their Inner Spark.
In other words, on ‘Cosmic Egg’, he is Inviting people, Artists & All Kinds, to draw on the very Source of the Patterns of the Cosmos and Creation, as they are, and as it is, fully realized and comprehensible, just awaiting our careful negotiation as engaged, free-thinking creatures. To seek and find their deepest notion of existence, unique to each person, a very special spark that escapes all but exclusively one’s own grasp.
Wolfmother’s Cosmic Egg: The Close Detail Review
Metaphysics, Astrophysics…Physics are clearly the inspiration for this record.
Opposing forces clash, they do not absorb into each other. (Due to Irreconcilable musical and personal differences, Andrew was required to separate with original members Chris Ross and Myles Heskett. ‘They like eyes to see on parallels, seeing all things are similar. For those who deny chance, have their chance denied.’)
Something with a strong foundation will stand. (Across time, they draw on the very same source of inspiration for music as Black Sabbath & Led Zeppelin.)
When Something Vacates Space, Space is created on the other side.
(aka. The notion that it is intrinsic to life to weigh up both sides to the meaning of our decisions, before deciding the outcome. Appropriately, another side to this is the parallel between the action of two opposing forces creating something out of a collision, such as with Wolfmother’s breakup & the Big Bang which began Existence, and of Progressing out such times of ‘Conflict’, Informed by & considering both opposing elements.)
Nothing Is created or destroyed, but everything changes shape.
(When we die, our atoms are simply used to create other Organisms. On ‘Cosmic Egg’, Elements of ‘Monolith’ and the original ‘Violence of the Sun’ were shaped into ‘Inside the Castle’ and ‘Sundial.’)
And last, but by no means the least profound,
Nothing is ever wholly dependent on any one thing.
(Andrew could not have made this Music on his own.
He found the Help of Skilled Musicians, Ian Peres, David Atkins, and Aiden Nemeth, to aid him in crafting this Album.)
Nothing, that is, Except, It could be said, that very sentiment.
Just consider logic. It would never register as logical to lash out or get emotional or argue with the band’s former members, while being reasonable, as Andrew was, can do so much more. It is close minded not to consider peoples feelings, or to think there is only one way to be open minded.
Questioning this can be interesting, but done too much will end up being a waste of time.
It all comes down to Balance, and the way you choose to see things.
This is not ‘Wolfmother’s way to be’, however the way they phrase it during the course of the Record ( ‘May you never need to justify, Everybody’s got their own way.) may be different, but the sentiment behind it, of all humans being inherently unique by default, with no need to ‘Try’, only ‘Do’, proves itself to be a constant, and as such beyond any kind of ownership by any one party.
Wolfmother are a reaction, nothing finite. Only our bodies are. They are a conduit, as we all are. There is no hate, just understanding and action.
There is a consistent theme to everything: Goodness, Love.
( ‘I Believe that love is gonna last forever.’)
Never think you have figured it out, that’s the point, not having it figured out fully. That is Wolfmother’s mindset. The absence of one
The record speaks of taking in stride, putting things in perspective.
Of how, If it is a relevant force, something will present itself in your Life, in time. (‘You could be, what you are, anytime, this time.
Could it be, what you see, you could be, in time.’)
The only fundamentally logical course of action, the only way that doesn’t feel like a human posoning themselves, is to visualize & practice those themes, as is Musically Exemplified by Wolfmother on ‘Cosmic Egg’.
The Record Sonically Illustrates how the underlying basics and themes of Life are learnt and proven in time (‘you wanted love, but it’s not what she was thinking of.’) and that the Self can only get in the way so much before the might of Physics, Reality, the Primal Forces, will act on & through us.
Otherwise, delusion & denial to the contrary to the side, having anything negative within will affect you in obvious and less obvious ways, getting worse, more numb, and harder to escape, the further one tunnels into obscurity and irrelevance. (Early on, Record Label Pressures forced Andrew, still reeling from the separation of the original band members from Wolfmother, to need to seek out personal space back home, to craft a record that speaks quite clearly against this oppressive mentality: ‘Even the people so small, wanna see the tyrant a fall.’)
It presents, in many of it’s songs, the concept of one needing to fully feel a situation from their point of view, but also from the world’s, arguably more important than what one single person thinks or believes. How emotionlessly analyzing is required at times.
How, as evidenced on ‘Cosmic Egg’, doing so adds whole other dimensions of Understanding.
They present the message, throughout the album, that
No one at all should deign to believe they ‘have it all figured out.’ they ask us to Consider the karma of doing that…But also make no claims to be wiser than this themselves.
Wolfmother, and Andrew Stockdale, prove on ‘Cosmic Egg’ that Reconfirming one’s foundations-our base beliefs-through Art, is ‘The’ Way.
There is only so much you can make your own, and Love can only do so much too, before Sense & Logic take reign.
Very subtly, everything is open to debate, apart from the fact that everything is open to debate. It’s not who is right, its what is right.
Wolfmother, with Cosmic Egg, completely prove they plan on being no one other than themselves, and the fact is physically, and therefore in Mind and Spirit also, they cannot.
It seems he, Andrew, has concluded, on this record, ‘I may as well and should be happy with who I am and what I know right now, and in every moment to come, and excited to use my Music- Mind, Body and Soul- to experience the world as it happens within and without me.’
The incredibly profound realization and conclusion I personally made whilst listening to this Magnificent, Cinematic album is that Art is this Act: To hope to pin ‘it’, the meaning of things in general, down, but to know and rejoice that not you, or anyone, ever truly & completely can.
To know that what makes ‘it’ Real is that you believe and live ‘it’, by Engaging with it, in a moment of feeling beauty within yourself from considering it, or ‘Trying’ to define it.
Wolfmother are pure Information, just another shape of it.
I, Personally, whilst listening to this record, realized that
The feeling of information reacting with me-fellow, equal information-is Art.
I, Personally, whilst listening to this record, have learnt to go by the Past, the Facts, and looking to the Future, as they are, to fully live out the moment, and to widely apply this basic knowledge.
It is pure information, from nowhere in particular, and I funnel it through me, but if ‘me’ is indeed someone who is truly part of my Self, I know it isn’t the one thing to life. Many more things than me make up my Self. one of them is Visual art, one is Music, and another is my Family.
You can make the rules of your world for Art, as long as it’s contained and humble. That is why and when the Art really works, when it is genuine, and doesn’t impose. Cosmic Egg is an Invitation, not an Instruction.
That is what does, and needs, to happen more often in Music Today.
to Recognize that It’s purpose its to stimulate, question, beautify, many things. Ultimately, it’s simply expression, not, as many people insist, of Criticism, Comparing & Arguing, trying to sell magazines and get hits on websites, and who think genres are anything more or less than simply being a way to direct a listener to their music.
‘Cosmic Egg’ can make you rejoice, but also make you feel Vulnerable. Inexplicable, this has huge significance, and anyone who makes too light of it is unconscionable.
Become attached to what you have created with love, but know This sentiment echoes out in relevance to all other forces in all our lives, and makes the record very relatable, and thus memorable and classic.
The Truth Is, What Is. and Wolfmother know that.
Now that Andrew has separated entirely, down to the last effects, from being forced to drink the posion that was mislabeled to him as Progressive Musical Humlity (putting out a record from obscurity in 2005, and Inducting Led Zeppelin in 2007), he understands the essential element of Life as being Love.
Pure passionate love for Music itself.
(It is mentioned in an interview, of how during the course of a night, Drummer David Atkins, helped andrew ‘fall in love with music all over again.’)
from the experiences of the past year and a half,
he has learnt the hard way that It’s important to know when you’re still being yourself, of always considering the constants, Love, and Change.
Wolfmother, as well as I, are supportive of the notion that You are part of the real world, you are this thing, Life. And you are subject to its rules, which is, there are none.
And when you are in this, when you accept you are, as Who and What you are, you can create doubtlessly, fearlessly, as is showcased All throughout the thrilling life-experience that is Cosmic Egg.’
‘You must be able to let go. Don’t give up, just let go.
Be within the Good spectrum of Life: Feelings, Emotions, Thoughts, Actions.
Be insubstantial almost. Don’t get in the way of life, but funnel it.
Be a conduit of the world.
Life is always learning, clearing, clarifying.
Not gimmicks or stage shows, as many Bands display in this Modern Age.
Subsequent conduct speaks louder than momentary promises for the future.
(How Wolfmother said the album would arrive earlier…)
Wolfmother proves, particularly with its new musicians, that there is always a Truer, and therefore less edgy way to do & feel things.
these new musicians are exemplary human beings, not considering themselves above or below anything, the delightful and solace brining combination of humble and skilled.
The Ether of which Wolfmother, with ‘cosmic egg’, have now become a tangible part of, is and will always be there for us, as listeners, and to them, as creators of Musical Galaxies.
And strong ideas are proven by how they are genuine and can stand against all destructive forces: most of all, Time.
Cosmic Egg is a timeless Triumph of Heavy Metal & Hard Rock n’ Roll.
It confirmed to me, through its themes, that
I am aware that I’m aware. that I have learnt to learn.
To See things for just what they are.
that is why I Completely Loved listening to Wolfmother for the past 5 years, and to Cosmic Egg just a week ago.
The same reason why I love my family, my dad and mum.
Not because what they say is for them, or from them,
But because its from goodness ITSELF, and love ITSELF.
and That Is Real Love, I think.
Wolfmother, with ‘Cosmic Egg’, prove that they, like me and many other Artists, document & express accepting being who they are through their Art.’
