Cosmic Egg nominated for Classic Rock award

August 23, 2010

Wolfmother’s second album, Cosmic Egg, has been nominated for Classic Rock magazine’s Album of the Year award. The album, which was released in October last year, will be up against 14 other albums released in 2009 or 2010, including Kiss’s Sonic Boom, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s God & Guns and Slash, the self-titled solo album by the ex-Guns N’ Roses guitarist, on which Wolfmother’s own Andrew Stockdale appears as a guest vocalist.

The awards ceremony will be hosted by rock legend Alice Cooper at the legendary Roundhouse music venue in London, England on November 10, 2010. Nominees in other categories include fellow Australians AC/DC (Band of the Year), for whom Wolfmother opened on a leg of their Black Ice World Tour, and Download Festival 2010 (Event of the Year), at which Wolfmother were scheduled to perform but for the (still unsolved) illness of Andrew Stockdale.

Some may say that the inclusion of Cosmic Egg in the list of nominations for the Album of the Year award is a surprise, given its mediocre critical response and lack of fan support, although it did receive its fair amount of praise. Should Wolfmother win the award, which has ever-increasing prestige, it will be their first accolade in over two years since they won the APRA Award for Most Played Australian Work Overseas in June 2008.
